Bom Successo ResortEurope / Portugal / Remodelling
Having just been added to the ‘European Tour Destination’ portfolio, the primary objective is to look at ways of improving the general appearance of the Bom Successo course while reducing the overall grass areas and irrigation demands.
Our initial focus of attention is two-fold: to analyse the existing irrigation network (on course as well as the interface with the resort) and to propose transitional landscape styles, and areas around the course where these styles can be established.
Located in Óbidos, not far north of Lisbon, close to the Obidos lagoon and with striking inland and sea views, Bom Sucesso offers not just an 18-hole Championship golf course but 601 houses in an eye-catching array of architectural styles.
The project, recognised by the Portuguese government as a “Project of National Interest”, involved 23 Masters of Contemporary Architecture to create an innovative and unique luxury tourist resort where modern architecture merges into the natural beauty of the Óbidos lagoon.
Originally designed by Donald Steel, the 18-hole layout extends along on a rugged slope and is populated by dense Mediterranean vegetation with scores of exotic species. Hundreds of olive trees were planted, combined with azaleas and magnolias framing the course.
A five star hotel is under development, complete with an extensive range of leisure facilities and services including a luxury spa.
The review of the irrigation system is due to be completed in April 2017, while the initial turf reduction & landscape renovation works will commence on-site in May 2017.
