Robin

Firstly may i thank you for your comments. As a member at Sitwell Park I have recently penned a letter to our committee suggesting that Mackenzies twelfth green be recreated, your comments will hopefully add a bit of weight to my case.

Ps. I am also led to believe that Sir George Sitwell actually took dynamite to the twelfth, fifteenth & eighteenth greens. We are currently trying to find any other original photographs that might exist. Next year an area of our clubhouse is being dedecated to the collection of memorabilia, hopefully something may pop up.

Jeremy,

Everything you have described about Stan Eby holds water, and in great volumes.

Stan wore that 'white hat' in golf course architecture - we've had a true professional in our midst.

He is indeed legend, and that is ‘no brag, just fact’, as Walter Brennan used to say in the USA.

We hope he can return to UK in the future, and visit us as well.

And a fine piece of writing, too; your two tales are classic Stan Eby.

Thank you for sharing with us. And all the best to Stan.

I was lucky enough to play Barnbougle with my sons and would have to say the green is as impossible as it can get.......however 3 of our fourball 2 putted from various locations on the green (for pars!!) and in my humble opinion the green setting worked.

Nice report, Robin. I love that place, it's a museum of early 20th Century golf, but remarkably relevant today. The first four greens are nothing short of amazing! You are right about the longer hitters leaving the driver in the bag; Philip G bombed three irons off the tee all day, well beyond our pathetic tee balls. I made the same comment as you about the trees, but the members think there's plenty of width in the corridors.

Ross,

I find your job interesting. While I work in the environmental design industry, mostly for the signage industry, but your designs mature over time and change. I find that fascinating that your designs have different stages.

Look forward to looking at more of your designs.

I was lucky enough to play the course in September. Stunningly beautiful, although the greens seem to need a little more time to bed as it is still in its infancy. The second hole is fantastic with one of the real 'wow just look at this' factors in European golf. It can only get better.

I can't wait to go back and play it again.
