Passion Evolved

Budding designer Gary Johnston

The core of the company has been the same since its existence but it has evolved and grown. Our passion and demand for excellence is backed up by years of technical and hands-on experience.

For all of us, it started with a passion for playing the game – the kind that means playing two or, better still, three rounds a day: starting before the dew has been swept from the greens, no time for lunch and running to get the last few holes finished before the sun has disappeared completely. From there, as we all started to realise that golf was not just about controlling the ball, that passion evolved to a fascination with the course itself – how the layout could affect the way we played the hole and the course; how the condition impacted on how we might play a shot and how, the more we understood about these aspects, the more fascinating the playing of the game became.

That passion still drives us. It’s what gets us out of bed at 4am to catch a flight for a site visit; it’s what keeps us on site until, just as when we were younger, the sun has completely disappeared but there’s just enough time to look at one more hole before going home; it’s the reason why there are days when we don’t really see sunlight at all – starting at the drawing board or computer screen before the sun is up and stopping long after it has set; it’s what drives us to work just that little bit harder.

The core of the company has been the same since its existence but it has evolved and grown. Our passion and demand for excellence is backed up by years of technical and hands-on experience.

We’ve been together a long time. Like any family, there are healthy disagreements and debate, but above all we respect each other’s skills and the willingness to share ideas. We are different people, but with a common goal: we intend to be the best design group in the business. It’s that simple. Others will judge our success – for us, it is enough to know that at the end of each day, we’ve done everything we can do to make sure that your course is as good as it can be.
