PASSION

Designing golf courses that perform, inspire and succeed.

For all of us, it started with a passion for playing the game – the kind that means playing two or, better still, three rounds a day: starting before the dew has been swept from the greens, no time for lunch and running to get the last few holes finished before the sun has disappeared completely. From there, as we all started to realise that golf was not just about controlling the ball, that passion evolved to a fascination with the course itself – how the layout could affect the way we played the hole and the course; how the condition impacted on how we might play a shot and how, the more we understood about these aspects, the more fascinating the playing of the game became.

That passion still drives us. It’s what gets us out of bed at 4am to catch a flight for a site visit; it’s what keeps us on site until, just as when we were younger, the sun has completely disappeared but there’s just enough time to look at one more hole before going home; it’s the reason why there are days when we don’t really see sunlight at all – starting at the drawing board or computer screen before the sun is up and stopping long after it has set; it’s what drives us to work just that little bit harder.

The core of the company has been the same since its existence but it has evolved and grown. Our passion and demand for excellence is backed up by years of technical and hands-on experience.

We’ve been together a long time. Like any family, there are healthy disagreements and debate, but above all we respect each other’s skills and the willingness to share ideas. We are different people, but with a common goal: we intend to be the best design group in the business. It’s that simple. Others will judge our success – for us, it is enough to know that at the end of each day, we’ve done everything we can do to make sure that your course is as good as it can be.

SERVICES

We provide a comprehensive planning and design service in all aspects of golf course development, from initial site appraisal through to opening day.

When we are commissioned to design a new course, the services of European Golf Design can be split into several distinct phases:

Site Assessment

Site Assessment

A review of the site to determine it's suitability for golf.

Conceptual Design

Conceptual Design

Conceptual schemes are developed to determine the best locations for golf, hotels, housing or any other facilities.

Final Master Plan

Final Master Plan

From the conceptual schemes a final master plan is agreed showing the layout of the proposed golf course.

Detailed Design

Detailed Design

Development of plans required for golf course construction. Typically these will include plans for staking, grading, clearing, drainage, landscape concept, irrigation, grassing and green details as well as construction details.

Construction Documentation

Construction Documentation

Production of construction specifications, general conditions, bills of quantities and tender documents.

Construction Administration

Construction Administration

During construction, frequent regular inspections of the work are undertaken to ensure that the designs and specifications are followed correctly by the Contractor.

Through our two parent companies, we are also able to arrange the management and marketing of golf destinations. IMG’s Real Estate Division and Golf Client Division can offer a range of services including promotional, event and facility management, as well as player representation and signature design. The European Tour can provide golf tournaments and special events and, through European Tour Properties, have their own real estate department.

SUSTAINABILITY

Contributing to profitable golf developments, through socially and environmentally responsible golf course design.

With increasing demands for environmental responsibility from governments, local communities and consumers, today’s developments need to achieve ever higher standards of social, economic and environmental stewardship. Sustainability is the relationship between these elements and offers some of the greatest challenges to any future development.

All new golf developments are capable of sustaining a healthy ecology while providing economic benefits for both developers and local communities. As golf course designers sustainability defines the way in which we design from the very earliest stages. We work hard to ensure that, wherever possible, our courses show a net-positive environmental impact while still maximising returns for the investor.

The six main sustainability themes which golf developments need to address are:
