Antalya Golf Club - Sultan Course

Europe / Turkey

The Brief

In May 1998 European Golf Design were appointed by Antalya Golf Klubu Turizm, A.S. to design two 18 hole golf courses in the region of Belek, 30km to the east of Antalya on the Turkish Mediterranean coast. This area was designated for golf course construction by the Ministry of Tourism and chosen for its outstanding beauty.

The Course

The golf course threads its way through pine and eucalyptus, up and over sandy ridges and around clear water lakes. Water comes into play on eight of the holes and steep faced pot bunkers guard the fairways and greens.

The Sultan Course presents a tough and uncompromising test of golfing skills.

Status

  • The course opened in 2003.
  • In November 2012, the Sultan played host to two events on the international golf calendar. First, it was the venue for the 2012 Eisenhower Trophy. Won by the United States, with Mexico in second place, the event was a great success. Less than one week after the world’s leading amateur players had left, the course was hosting the best professional players in the world during the inaugural Turkish Airlines World Golf Final. Among the participants in this eight man elite field were Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and the eventual winner, Justin Rose.
