JCB Golf & Country Club
Europe / United KingdomThe Brief
EGD were proud to be appointed by British engineering giants JCB to design them an 18-hole golf course with professional tournament potential, to serve as a marketing tool for the development of JCB’s global brand. The course’s primary function is as the host for JCB corporate play.
The Site
The course sits on 105 hectares of mixed farm and parkland adjacent to JCB’s world headquarters in Rocester, Staffordshire, with beautiful far-reaching views to the Peak District. The centrepiece of the site is the 18th Century ruin of Woodseat Hall.
The Course
Making the most of a fascinating variety of landscapes, from open farmland, through stately parkland, woodlands and spectacular lake lands, the routing of the JCB course offers as much a pleasing ramble through the beautiful Staffordshire countryside as it does a premier, strategic golfing challenge. A notable feature of the course is the varied and bold use of the existing water features found on site. Holes 1 and 3 make dramatic use of the old Uttoxeter Canal, which was widened to form a lake in the grounds of Woodseat Hall. Holes 5, 11 and 12 play along the course of the sinuous Alders Brook, whilst the course reaches a crescendo with the iconic 17th and 18th holes with play directly onto and off an island in the middle of the ornate South Lake.
Status
Course fully opened in 2019.
