Kittitian Hill
Caribbean / Ian Woosnam / Signature Design / St KittsThe Brief
To create an 18 hole golf course on the island of St Kitts in the Caribbean. The course is being designed in association with Ian Woosnam. The golf course forms part of Kittitian Hill Resort, a community committed to sustainable developments and responsible tourism. Residential properties will be built for sale including Spa Cottages, Hotel Cottages, Luxury Villas and Townhouses, all of which may be placed in the rental programme.
The Site
Situated on the lower slopes of Mount Liamuiga it offers panoramic views of the Caribbean sea and the surrounding islands from every hole. The winding golf course layout makes the most of the natural terrain using the numerous ghauts (valleys) to provide testing hazards. In keeping with the sustainable ethos of the resort the golf course is also designed to address a number of social and environmental issues. These include careful use of resources such as conserving water through the use of native grasses that match the climate, maintaining and monitoring the quality of natural watersheds and groundwater, using locally sourced materials, and integrating food producing plants into the golf landscape which can be harvested for use within the community.
