Royal Norwich Golf Club

Europe / United Kingdom

The Brief

To secure their long term future Royal Norwich recognised it had to find a new home which would allow the club to redevelop and modernise. The aim was to create a high quality, dynamic member’s golf club which has a broad appeal to golfers of all ages and creates a warm and friendly environment for their families and guests.

The Site

A deal to relocate the golf club came to fruition in early 2014 when the opportunity arose to purchase Weston Park, a mature parkland around a 15 minute drive from the club’s home at Hellesdon, on the outskirts of Norwich. At the same time agreements were signed with Persimmon Homes for the sale of the existing golf course.

The Course

EGD carried out appraisals of the new site, including feasibility and cost studies and then prepared the detailed design documentation for a planning application and, subsequently, construction. The redevelopment includes an 18 hole, 7,200 yard, par 73 golf course, a 6 hole short course, practice range and short game training area.

Construction began in May 2017 and was completed on time in August 2018. The new course officially opened for play in September 2019.
